OPENING KEYNOTE

JOSÉ MOISÉS MARTÍN CARRETERO

José Moisés Martín Carretero holds a Degree in Economics by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Postgraduate in Finance by IE Business School, Economical Analysis by UNED and International Economic Relations by CEPADE, at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He has a Certificate on Digital Strategy by INSEAD and complementary studies at Harvard Kennedy School of Government-IESE and London School of Economics.
Before being appointed as Director General of CDTI, he was Director and consulting partner at Red2Red and he has more than 25 years of professional experience in public and private sectors.
Previously, he has been a member of the Advisory Council of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Economy and Advisory Council of the High Commissioner of Spain Entrepreneurial Nation; he has acted as an expert in “Los 100 de COTEC”, at COTEC Foundation for Innovation and at the Advisory Council of the Instituto Hermes on digital humanism.
From 2016 to 2024, he has been a Professor of Economy and Technological Entrepreneurship at Universidad Camilo José Cela.
In 2012, he was appointed Economic Advisor at South Korea Embassy in Spain and, from 2008 to 2012, he has been the Head of the Multilateral Cooperation Department at the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID); Head of the Development Promotion Fund (FONPRODE); member of the Committee of Fund for Business Internationalization and member of the Board of Directors of the public entity P4R-España Expansión Exterior.
He has been a regular speaker in different postgraduate programmes and has written many reports, articles and collaborated in books on Venture Capital, Innovation Policy and Digital Economy. He is author of: “España 2030, Gobernar el Futuro” (Deusto 2016) and “El Futuro de la Prosperidad” (Ariel 2022).

ASIER RUFINO

Founder and Managing Director of Tecnalia Ventures, the pioneering industrial deep tech venture builder in Europe (13 years) where he has participated in the creation of +25 spin-offs raising +240MM€ in funding with a valuation of portfolio companies in excess of 300M€. He holds an MBA from London Business School / Sloan MIT and cross-registration at Harvard Business School with a BA in Basque Country University (Spain) and Erasmus at ESC Reims (FR). Earlier in his career he worked fostering technological innovation in: Accenture (IRL); BNP Paribas (FR); Gilead (UK-TUR); The Parthenon Group-EY (UK-USA) and Dubai Health Authority (UAE). He is part of the Executive Committee of Tecnalia; Chairman in H2SITE and NED in other 8 deep tech spin-offs; a Professor at Deusto Business School and IE Business School; an EIC Accelerator Jury member; a Board member of the TTO Circle (G-30 of leading European RTO Tech Transfer Offices), leading the deep tech entrepreneurship Working Group; a BA Investor and cofounder of Gymchess. He is a regular speaker in conferences and part of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Universities “Knowledge Transfer Expert Group”.

DANIEL RAMÓN

Prof. Daniel Ramón holds a degree and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Valencia. He carried out his doctoral research at the pharmaceutical company Antibióticos S.A. He completed postdoctoral stays at Wageningen Agricultural University in the Netherlands. He was Professor of Food Technology at the University of Valencia and Research Professor at the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In 2003, he founded the biotechnology company Biopolis SL, specialising in microbial biotechnology, and in 2008 he founded Lifesequencing SL, specialising in high-throughput genomics. Both companies were acquired in 2017 by the American company Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM), where he served as Vice President of R&D in Nutrition and Health at ADM. Since 2024, he has been Professor of Food Technology at Cardenal Herrera CEU University.
His technological results are protected by 33 patent families covering more than 200 national and international patents, most of which have been transferred and are in use. He has published 190 articles in leading international journals. He has received the Award of the Spanish Society for Microbiology, the Danone Institute Scientific Career Award, the Juan de la Cierva National Research Award, the International Hippocrates Award, the García Cabrerizo Foundation Medal for the Promotion of Invention, and the International NutraChampion Award.
He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Governing Board of the Spanish National Research Council and a full member of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain.

JORGE BARRERO

Managing Director of Fundación Cotec for Innovation. He holds a degree in Biochemistry and a Master’s degree in Science, Technology and Society Studies from the University of Salamanca. He was Director General of the Cabinet of the Ministry of Science and Innovation under Cristina Garmendia, where he was responsible for the general coordination of the Ministry’s political action, as well as overseeing the public agenda, parliamentary activity and relations with the media. He was Deputy to the President and Secretary General of ASEBIO, the Spanish Bioindustry Association. He previously developed his career in strategic consultancy in the biotechnology sector and within the public R&D system. He is a regular contributor to the media and has taught at several universities and business schools.
